Navigating the challenging journey of AML, Shane's diagnosis was first in 2021 during the heart of the Covid-19 pandemic. Shane, his mother Krystle, and his step-father Jason find solace in the care and treatment provided by the dedicated team at Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Centers, who are doing everything possible to support Shane's fight against this merciless disease.

Shane is a 16 year-old young man who lives with his mother Krystle, his soon to be step-father Jason, and his sister in Massachusetts. This beautiful family is hard-working, resilient, and has always gotten through the challenges life throws at them. Unfortunately, no family is ever prepared for the word “cancer.”

Shane’s treatment has been a long process, that has sadly also been filled with many complications and unforeseen side-effects; as if cancer is not enough already. Perhaps the most devastating has been Shane’s loss of nearly all his sight; no family should ever have to face this challenge, especially when life can already be hard enough.

Shane was diagnosed with AML (a terrible form of leukemia) in 2021 during the heart of the pandemic, and like any family faced with this news, got Shane the help and care he needed in Boston immediately. This has been the hardest fight Jason and his family have ever had to face, and even with insurance, funds are tight.

Shane’s treatment has been a long process, that has sadly also been filled with many complications and unforeseen side-effects; as if cancer is not enough already. Perhaps the most devastating has been Shane’s loss of nearly all his sight; as if cancer is not enough already. On top of these things, he has been hospitalized in Boston for 10 1/2 of the last 15 months; as if cancer is not enough already. During many weeks at a time, he has had to remain in the ICU and his most current admission was in February 2023 with no release date in sight.

Cancer spreads its vicious arms to every member of a family. Jason has taken much time off from work in order to care for Shane’s sister, while Krystle has also taken off much work time in order to be with Shane in Boston (a 110 mile round-trip drive). This family has not given up, and neither has Shane, but funds are running thin, and this beautiful family needs help for their basic essentials so that they can not only continue to live, but so that Shane can continue to receive all the help he needs to put this cancer in remission once and for all.

This family requested funds from the ACCBF for their power bill. No one should have to worry about rationing power, let alone being able to pay for it. It is unimaginable the effect cancer can have. Because of your generous support through the ACCBF, Shane’s beautiful family does not have to worry about their power being shut off; they can have the power they need to be comfortable and also focus on what matters: Shane.

It is in these darkest moments that people will wonder if anyone cares for them. Because of your support, Shane and his family know that there are people supporting and praying for them and that they are not alone in this fight. This family requested funds from the ACCBF for their power bill. No one should have to worry about rationing power, let alone being able to pay for it.  You become the workings of God Himself when you reach out to those in need. From the ACCBF, we thank you, and on behalf of Shane’s family, we thank you as well. You bring more support and care than you can possibly imagine when things are at their darkest.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before you with heavy hearts, seeking your love, strength, and healing grace for Shane, a brave teenage boy who is facing the challenges of cancer. In this time of uncertainty and struggle, we ask for your divine presence to surround Shane with comfort and peace.

Lord, you are the ultimate source of hope and healing. We humbly ask that you pour out your mercy upon Shane, guiding the hands of his medical team, and infusing them with wisdom and skill as they work to alleviate his pain and restore his health. Grant them insight and perseverance to find the best treatments and solutions.

We lift up Shane's family and friends to you, Lord. Provide them with the courage and resilience they need to support Shane on this difficult journey. May they find solace in your unending love and draw strength from the community that surrounds them.

During moments of fear and uncertainty, may Shane feel your gentle presence and be filled with a sense of peace that surpasses all understanding. Surround him with your healing light, easing his pain and lifting his spirits. Grant him the strength to face each day with determination and hope, knowing that you are walking alongside him.

Lord, we also ask for healing in the broader sense – not only physical, but emotional and spiritual as well. May Shane find moments of joy and laughter amidst the challenges, and may his faith remain unwavering, serving as a beacon of inspiration to those around him.

As we lift up our prayers for Shane, we trust in your infinite wisdom and boundless love. Your ways are beyond our understanding, but we know that you are a God of compassion and grace. We ask all of this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ.

Amen.
